Service Areas

Service areas define where your team is allowed to operate. When dispatch assigns work, Hikyaku checks whether addresses fall inside one of your configured zones.

Setting these zones correctly helps you:

  • Keep drivers within their coverage area
  • Prevent out-of-area assignments
  • Scale operations with clear geographic boundaries

Open Service Areas

  1. In the dashboard sidebar, go to Service.
  2. Select Service Areas.

On this page, you will see:

  • A map of existing zones
  • The Add Service Area button
  • Zone hover/click interaction for existing areas

If no zones exist yet, the map starts empty until you create your first area.

Create A New Service Area

  1. Click Add Service Area.
  2. Enter a clear Service Area Name that dispatch can recognize quickly.

In the editor, you can define coverage in two ways.

Option 1: Draw Area On The Map

  1. Click Draw Area.
  2. Click on the map to place boundary points.
  3. Continue clicking to outline your zone.
  4. Double-click to close the polygon.
  5. Click Edit Area to adjust points and fine-tune the boundary.

Use this method when you need a custom boundary that does not match a standard administrative region.

Option 2: Upload GeoJSON

  1. Click Upload GeoJSON.
  2. Select a .geojson file from your local machine.
  3. The map auto-fits to the uploaded geometry.
  4. Confirm the shape and update the area name if needed.

GeoJSON is a standard format used by mapping and government systems for geographic boundaries, and is ideal when you already have validated zone data.

Save The Service Area

After drawing or uploading your boundary:

  1. Verify the zone shape on the map.
  2. Confirm the Service Area Name.
  3. Click Create Service Area.

The new zone is saved immediately and appears in your Service Areas map for your team.

Update Or Reset While Editing

The editor also includes utility actions:

  • Edit Area to modify an existing drawn polygon
  • Clear Area to remove the current drawn boundary
  • Clear GeoJSON to remove uploaded reference geometry

If needed, you can clear and redraw before submitting.
